Children’s jubilee bake sale raises hundreds of pounds for charity
Parents and carers at Pilgrim Academy in Immingham baked more than 1,000 cakes for a Platinum Jubilee Bake Sale, raising over £500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The spectacular cakes covered the entire Academy stage, and hundreds of visitors turned out to buy the tasty treats.
Members of the Student Leadership Team and House Captains were run off their feet serving the hundreds of visitors during the after-school event, organised by Year 6 Teacher Joanne Ireson.
She said: “We simply cannot believe the response to this. The parents and carers have been absolutely amazing in their generosity. We have some wonderful cakes celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, adorned with crowns and flags and jewels. The response is unbelievable.”
Once the visitors had chosen their cakes, they were treated to two performances to celebrate the Jubilee. Members of the Pilgrim Academy Cheerleading Team, made up of pupils from Years 3-6, performed on the stage to songs from each decade of the Queen’s 70-year reign.
The Jubilee Choir, made up of children from Reception to Year 6, then performed outside in the Academy garden with two songs to celebrate the Jubilee. The first was ‘Platinum Jubilee’ and the second was Gary Barlow’s ’Sing,’ which was written for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Pilgrim Academy Principal Andy Clark, thanked parents and carers for their “tremendous response’ to the bake sale.
“We are a school for the community and most of the community is here today. It is fantastic to see,” he said.
