Traffic gridlocked at Birchin roundabout after suspected oil spill
Traffic is currently at a standstill after a suspected oil spill on the A180 Birchin roundabout in Grimsby this morning.
Humberside Police shared that emergency services are currently attending a road traffic incident on the roundabout heading into Grimsby after motorists reported oil on the road.
Traffic quickly came to a standstill as the early morning rush hour got underway, leaving many in ques for over half an hour.
Although police are yet to confirm the nature of the incident, some motorists have shared that the oil on the road has caused vehciles to skid and lose control.
One motorist wrote: “On way to work this morning my car spun almost into another – just managed to right it.”
Another said: “At 7.30 this morning I skidded 180 degrees In my van in the middle of the lane. Very scary moment.”
One motorist shared footage on the traffic building, adding that cars are backed up all the way to Immingham.
In their statement Humberside Police said: “Road closure due to traffic incident at Birchin roundabout of the A180. Please avoid the area whilst emergency services resolve the incident.”
AA traffic service added: “Road closed and queueing traffic due to oil spillage on A180 both ways from Moody Lane (Westgate Roundabout) to Gilbey Road (Pyewipe Roundabout). Congestion to surrounding roads approaching the A180. Detour in operation – via Moody Lane and Gilbey Road.”
