Scunthorpe United player apologises after swearing at fans

A Scunthorpe United player has apologised after swearing at fans during their match against Hartlepool at the weekend.

The Irons Joe Nutall failed to convert a key chance during the second half of the clash, an opportunity that could have put the game to bed.

Following the missed attempt, the 25-year-old was spotted swearing at Scunthorpe fans as they came to watch their side play their final home game in the English Football League.

Gaffer Keith Hill removed the forward off the pitch following the incident in a bid to nullify the tension.

Yesterday, Nutall took to Twitter to issue an apology, saying:

“I would like to wholeheartedly apologise to all supporters of Scunthorpe United for my actions during Saturday’s game”

“It’s been a frustrating and disappointing period for everyone at the club, including myself on a personal level since arriving here in January, and while this cannot be used to condone my actions or be used as an excuse, I let my frustration levels get the better of me something I completely regret”, he added.

“I have been grateful for all the support from the fans, the staff and my teammates since arriving at the football club, and I am in a privileged position to be a professional footballer for Scunthorpe United and should not have compromised that with my actions”

“I know my actions from this point going forward will speak louder than words and I will do everything I possibly can to make it up to the Iron supporters”

The statement was welcomed by Scunthorpe United fans, with one stating:

“We are all human mate, sometimes frustration can get the best of us! Keep your head up mate, I’m sure your confidence and goals will flow next season”

Another added:

“Respect for coming out and apologising to everyone. Chin up Joe”

“It’s been frustrating for us all, but you’ve done the right thing in apologising. We now move on”, another stated.
