Grimsby take a point thanks to TWO late goals!
Grimsby took a point home with them thanks to two late goals, extending their unbeaten streak to seven.
Unbeaten in six games, the Mariners were the obvious favorites for this afternoon’s clash as Barnet sat in 18th place.
With John McAtee absent again, Grimsby needed some big performances elsewhere as gaffer Paul Hurst made numerous changes to his roster, following their 2-1 victory against Torquay last weekend.
The Bees started the fixture the strongest after being awarded an early free kick. Ross Marshall was unable to punish Town with his effort.
The Mariners struggled to nullify the pressure from the hosts during the opening 10 minutes. A rather scrappy affair as both sides tried to settle into the game.
Max Crocombe was called into action to prevent an opening goal from Barnet, before a Town break resulted in a corner. Scannell’s delivery was headed over the bar by Luke Waterfall.
The Black and White Army continued to win several corners but were unable to punish the hosts.
Grimsby suffered yet another injury blow as Efete was forced off with an ankle issue after just 21 minutes. Jordan Cropper replaced the injured defender.
The Mariners found themselves 1-0 down as the first half came to a climax, a familiar trend in recent weeks.
De Havilland lifted the ball towards Marriott situated inside the Grimsby box. His initial effort had been deflected, but the striker was first to react and was able to slot home the opener.
Town again failed to test keeper Aymen Azaze just before the whistle as Waterfall headed a second effort over the bar.
The first 45 concluded with the Mariners trailing 1-0, after an uninspired display of wasteful set pieces and a lack of pressure in Barnet’s final third.
Tristan Abrahams replaced Joey Jones as Grimsby looked to rectify their first half performance. The Bees got the second 45 underway.
The Mariners began with confidence as they enjoyed a library of attacking chances which kept the hosts on their toes.
Waterfall was inches away from netting the equaliser after his effort glanced past the post. His second chance fell comfortably for the keeper to save.
Despite Grimsby’s promising turnaround, Barnet doubled their lead thanks to an own goal from Waterfall.
Scannell and Clifton linked up in the Bees final third, the latter headed a perfectly timed cross towards the far post but nobody was there to convert.
The Mariners did pose a threat on goal as efforts from Smith, Sousa and Clifton all managed to test Azaze but ultimately lacked clinical edge.
Andy Smith halved the deficit with 8 minutes left to play. The Mariners looked dangerous on the break.
Luke Waterfall bagged Grimsby’s second to bring the scoreline to 2-2 following a hectic attacking move in the hosts penalty area.
The clash finished in dramatic style as Grimsby scored two last minute goals. 2-2 the final scoreline.
