Arrests made after 9-hour stand off with armed police

Two men have been arrested after a nine-hour stand off between armed police on a street in Louth yesterday (23 April).

Armed police from Lincolnshire and other neighbouring forces flocked to a property on Queen Street after reports of a robbery.

The incident was reported outside a nightspot at the town-end of Queen Street, where merrymakers had been out on the street when the trouble began.

Trained officers with rifles and protective gear and negotiators attended at a property where two men were later arrested.

East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended and Queen Street was closed to the public by a police cordon.

The courtyard at the rear of a funeral directors was cordoned off also as the site backed onto the property where the two men were located.

Buses had to be diverted and passengers collected and dropped off in town as the town’s bus station was closed.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Queen Street in Louth after a report of a robbery at around 12.30 am. Firearms units were deployed to the scene as a precaution and the street was cordoned off by officers.

“Queen Street has since been reopened and two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Officers will remain on the scene as we carry out further investigations. However, there is no threat to the public.”
