Paul Hurst speaks on McAtee injury

Paul Hurst has spoken out about John McAtee’s injury.

Speaking to BBC Humberside Sport this afternoon, the Grimsby gaffer remained positive when asked about McAtee’s situation.

The Town striker had an early exit during Monday’s (April 18) fixture against King’s Lynn Town after picking up a nasty shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old has been an important asset for the Mariners this season, evidenced during Grimsby’s breathtaking 2-1 victory against league leaders Stockport County as he bagged one of two goals.

Today, Hurst stated that overall, John was “not too bad” but “still a doubt for the weekend”

The Grimsby boss added:

“He’s had the X-ray. That was good news in regards to there being no fracture which was the first hurdle to get over”

“He’s due to have an MRI scan today and he’s also booked in to see a specialist”

Hurst further explained that once McAtee’s results have all been received, the club would be in a much better position to continue with the final stretch of the season.

The Town gaffer confirmed that McAtee was absent from training yesterday but remained hopeful that he may be able to make an appearance tomorrow, ready for Saturday’s clash against Torquay United.

Paul Hurst concluded the interview stating, his fingers are crossed and he hopes McAtee will be ok, and can play some football before the season finishes.
