Car and houses damaged in dramatic early hours blaze

A car and houses have been left damaged after a blaze in the early hours of this morning (15 April) down a Grimsby street.

Crime Scene Investigators are currently at the scene on Weelsby Street after reports came in of a fire early this morning with what is alleged to be an accelerant found at the scene.

Locals were shocked to look out their windows to see a destroyed Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GTI on their front doorstep after being woken up by the flames.

Some nearby houses have also been damaged, with a door and window being burnt and the rendering of some houses also being destroyed.

Police are treating the incident as suspected arson and are currently reviewing CCTV footage.

Humberside Police Said: “At 4am this morning, Friday 15 April 2022, police were called following a suspected arson on a parked car on Weelsby Street in Grimsby.

“Officers are continuing with lines of enquiry and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to call us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 81 of 15 April.”
