Six arrested after Grimsby vs. Chesterfield

Six people have been arrested following Grimsby’s trip to Chesterfield last weekend, the BBC have said.

According to reports, five Grimsby Town fans were arrested for a string of offences including public order, pyrotechnic possession, drugs, and pitch encroachment.

A Chesterfield fan was also arrested after he breached his football ban order.

Derbyshire Police said they expected to make more arrests as they analysed video footage.

A spokesperson for the force said a serious assault happened at the Donkey Derby pub around 4pm, not far from Chesterfield’s ground.

Officers have since said a Grimsby Town fan, believed to be in his 30s, had suffered a serious head injury in the incident.

Grimsby and Chesterfield fans were reportedly involved in the disturbance.

PC Adam Collins, the dedicated officer for Chesterfield Football Club said “significant incidents of disorder” were reported, both inside the stadium and in the wider town area throughout the day.

“The vast majority of those who come to matches, from both home and away teams, are fantastic ambassadors for their clubs”, he added.

“But those who took part in the various incidents of disorder on Saturday are the absolute opposite”

“Put simply, their behaviour was totally unacceptable and over the coming days and weeks we will be reviewing CCTV, including high-resolution drone footage, to identify those involved”

Derbyshire Police said 15 bags of cocaine had been recovered, resulting in two men being arrested for drug offences at the town’s railway station.

The force is now appealing for anyone with footage of the assault or any other incident of disorder to contact them.
