Gilbey road target of fly tippers

Appeals for witnesses after a load of rubbish was illegally dumped in Grimsby at the weekend.

Someone fly-tipped cushions, furniture, and many bin bags full of rubbish near the town’s Community Recycling Centre

The site in Gilbey Road is a local recycling plant, which recently saw a fire break out.

Enforcement officers, of the council, suspect the rubbish came from a property in Corporation Road, Grimsby, and are investigating

The rubbish was reportedly dumped between 6 pm on Saturday 26 and 7 am, on Sunday 27 February.

Council workers reportedly cleared the mess this week.

Fly-tipping is a circulating problem in the local area, with residents even taking matters into their own hands.

It is an unnecessary expense for the Council to clear the site and dispose of the rubbish.

If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area or recognize the waste that was dumped, please report it in confidence at www.nelincs.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01472 326300.

Cllr Ron Shepherd, the portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “If you know who did this, please get in touch.

“People can also help by checking the credentials of anyone they pay to take away their waste.”

“Fly-tipping is a national problem. We all have a legal obligation, or duty of care, to make sure our waste is disposed of correctly.
