By Lane closure on Peaks Parkway this weekend
A section of the northbound lane on Peaks Parkway in Grimsby will be closed to traffic on Sunday 20 February.
Contractors working for North East Lincolnshire Council are currently demolishing the Doughty Road depot opposite the B&Q junction.
Workers are demolishing the building on a Sunday to try and keep disruption to a minimum.
The northbound stretch of Peaks Parkway will be closed between Welholme Road and Ellis Way between 7am and 5pm but the southbound carriageway will remain open.
Motorists travelling to and from B&Q and Halfords will need to use the southbound lane, and a signed diversion will be in place.
NELC and EQUANS are combining all their depot services in Doughty Road to update the facilities and bring more of their workers into the town centre.
These sites are for services such as waste and recycling, highway maintenance, fleet management, street cleansing, security, civil enforcement, property maintenance, licensing, grounds maintenance and ecology.
One of the main changes proposed in the site refurbishment is a new main entrance into Peaks Parkway, at the junction with B&Q and Halfords.
This first phase of works is due to be completed by 15 July 2022 while the full refurbishment is due for completion in early to mid-2023.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at NELC, said: “There will be a small amount of disruption while a building that backs onto Peaks Parkway is demolished. This is part of the ongoing refurbishment of the site. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
“Doughty Road Depot is becoming outdated and needs to be redeveloped to cater for the services that will be based there.
“Bringing our depots together on one site will reduce our property maintenance costs, improve service efficiency and provide good quality facilities for the workforce.
“The property improvements will also help us improve the energy efficiency of our buildings and move toward a zero-emissions vehicle fleet.”
