Prison worker met with dangerous inmate in Scunthorpe prior to his escape

Angela Pauley, a 48-year-old prison worker, reportedly met with dangerous inmate Brian McBride, 54, in Scunthorpe before his escape from jail.

Pauley allegedly had an intimate relationship with McBride after being manipulated by him within the prison.

The dangerous inmate has already spent over two decades serving a life sentence at Wakefield Prison, a high-security facility, for committing sex offences back in 1997.

He gained notoriety after a prison nurse, 47-year-old Karen Cosford, was jailed for having sexual relations with him in 2012 and the cycle appears to have repeated itself.

McBride was found in Pauley’s car two days after he went on the run on Tuesday 25 June 2019.

He was working at the Centenary Methodist Church in Boston at the time and was reported missing when he failed to return to HMP North Sea Camp.

McBride was later found in Mablethorpe with Pauley.

Pauley was recently taken to Lincoln Crown Court to answer for her crimes.

The prison worker pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in public office.

Whilst not a prison officer, she was an operational support grade officer, which meant she had access to McBride’s mail and could carry out searches.

She allegedly used a mobile phone to keep in contact with the dangerous inmate during their relationship.

Whether or not the pair were in a sexual relationship is unconfirmed.

However, it is believed that Pauley met with McBride in Scunthorpe days before his escape when he was allowed four days overnight leave at a hostel in the town.

He only received an extra four months in jail for his short escape.
