Brigg Poppy 10K & Military Challenge 2021

The Brigg Poppy 10K & Military Challenge is scheduled to take place in the North Lincolnshire market town on Sunday 31 October to raise money for the poppy appeal.

After holding the event virtually last year due to Covid, Curly’s Athletes has upped this year’s capacity to 1000 people, a huge increase on the 2019 750 capacity.

The scenic 10K offers great PB potential as North Lincolnshire is well known for its flat terrain that runners of all abilities can walk, jog or run.

Runners can enjoy the closed country roads of the route, with the start and finish line located at Brigg Market Place.

The Military Challenge is not for the faint of heart as competitors are required to wear boots and carry a backpack weighing 36lbs (16.3 kgs) for men and 24lbs (10.9 kgs) for women.

Those competing in the Military Challenge are required to provide their own rucksack, boots and appropriate weight.

The weight must be correct and does not include water, “weighing spot checks” will be taking place to ensure no cheating occurs.

Those signing up for the Challenge are required to raise a minimum of £75 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and there is a strict 50 capacity limit.

As the event supports the Royal British Legion there will be a two minute silence to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives serving our country.

Competitors can also receive a unique medal that celebrates the Poppy Appeal with each year bringing a  different design.

As it is a closed road race, local residents have been asked to avoid attempting to drive the route between 09:10-11:30.

All road closures for the day can be found on the event website.

Those who can’t make it on the day or fancy doing their own thing can run 10k in support of the Royal British Legion anytime, anywhere and send in the results by midnight on the 8th of November.
