Scunthorpe MP and Councillors present £10,000 to Macmillan Cancer Research

Scunthorpe MP, Holly Mumby-Croft, and cabinet member for commercial, Cllr Neil Poole, presented a cheque for £10,000 on 24 September on behalf of families at Scunthorpe Crematorium to Macmillan Cancer Research.

Cllr Poole, said: “On behalf of bereaved families, I am extremely proud to present this cheque to such a deserving cause. Cancer touches so many lives – to be able to support organisations like Macmillan, which provide support to people at a time when they need it the most, is brilliant.”

Jamie Davenport, Macmillan Fundraising Manager in Lincolnshire, said:

“We are so grateful for this incredibly generous donation, which will help us continue to fund vital cancer support services and healthcare professionals across the county.

“Macmillan is working tirelessly to do whatever it takes for people with cancer at a time when disruption caused by Covid-19 means demand for the charity’s services is high, while its income is down.

“It’s thanks to amazing supporters like the Scunthorpe Crematorium that we can continue to deliver the services that people living with cancer desperately need, now and in the future.”

The Scunthorpe Macmillan Fundraising Committee has raised more than £1.5m for people living with cancer, with the money raised being used to fund vital cancer support services across Lincolnshire.

This November, local people are invited to join the fundraising drive as the annual Celebrate a Life takes place online through Facebook and YouTube.

The event, now in its 23rd year, gives friends and families an opportunity to remember loved ones and celebrate memories.
