Competition winner’s lyrics used in local musician’s song

One of the winners of a local creative competition (Youth Action Creative Connections) has had their lyrics made into a new song by musician Amy Naylor.

Hammond House worked with Amy to bring the song, ‘Don’t Worry My Friend’, to life with 19-year-old Kerry Crouch’s lyrics.

The competition was set up by Youth Action, a local group made up of young people that is funded by Young Advisors lottery.

This year’s theme was ‘reducing loneliness and isolation through creating connections’.

People aged 11 to 25 took part in the competition last March by submitting their creative writing, art and photography to the judges.

Podcasts and dance performances were also submitted, showcasing locals’ talents.

Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, education and skills at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Nationally, young people have been delivering projects to bring people together and help combat loneliness and isolation.

“In our area, youngsters got together and came up with a creative way of getting other young people involved.

“Once the winners were announced, we worked with Hammond House to bring some of the entries to life.

“This wonderful son [was] the first of those results.

“Later in the year, we will be publishing an anthology of the entries to give them the attention that they deserve.”

The competition’s anthology is due to be published in the Autumn.

The winning artwork will be used as the anthology’s front cover.

Songwriter Kerry Crouch told North East Lincolnshire Council: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen as a winning entry.

“I would like to thank the judges of the Creative Connections competition for choosing my entry and making this amazing experience.

“I have loved every minute of everything we have done together.”
