Funding secured for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence services

The Home Office have given the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner £380,000 in funds to aid victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence in the Humberside area.

Support and prevention services will receive funds after the PCC’s office, working with partners such as the Humberside Police and The Blue Door, submitted three bids to increase the support available for locals and reduce the amount of offences in the area.

The Home Office Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Fund awarded £200,000 to enhance the pre-existing Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence (CAPV) services being run on the South Bank of the Humber.

The funds will go towards employing more practitioners who are equipped to work with the four local authorities.

CAPV’s aim is to rebalance the dynamics between parent and child if the child in question is violent or abusive towards their parent(s).

The Ministry of Justice Critical Support Fund provided £56,000 for ISVA/IDVA posts and Male Rape Support Services.

£126,500 was submitted from the Home Office STAR (Science, Technology and Research) Fund for Audio Recording Domestic Abuse Alarms.

Partnered with the University of Hull and Humberside Police, the funds will go towards assessing the the practicality of the provision of equipment that will be installed into at-risk domestic abuse victims’ homes.

Audio recording-enabled domestic abuse alarms (AREDAA) continuously record the audio in a room and contact the police control room when an alert button is pushed.

The footage before and of the incident can then be used as evidence in a court of law, ensuring that more perpetrators get convicted.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison said: “Abuse and Violence takes many forms and needs specialist services to provide the right support to those affected, and also to deal with the perpetrators of abuse and violence to reduce the likelihood of it happening again.

“I hope this funding will help to address some of these issues and protect those who need it most.

“It is important that we start to shift some of our focus to addressing the perpetrators of these offences and securing more convictions against those who inflict suffering on vulnerable people, which often happens in a domestic or family setting.

“This will be a key part of my Police and Crime Plan when it is published in the Autumn.”
