By Mayor just days away from skydive to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice
The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor David Hasthorpe, is just days away from embarking on a skydive in a bid to raise £1,500 for local charity St Andrew’s Hospice.
This Saturday (21 August), the Mayor will be jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet as he takes on a skydive at Hibaldstow Airfield.
Andy’s – one of three chosen charities for Councillor Hasthorpe’s Mayoral year – has been helping young people in the local community with life-limiting conditions for over two decades.
“St Andrew’s and Andy’s Hospices in Great Grimsby do such a wonderful job in looking after our residents in the, sometimes, final days of their lives,” said Cllr Hasthorpe – believed to be the first Mayor of North East Lincolnshire to take on a skydive.
“I hope that neither I, or any member of friends or family are ever in need of their services, but I truly believe in supporting their ever-increasing costs to give such dignity and care to those leaving the bosom of their loved ones.
“When I became Deputy Mayor in 2019, I promised that I would undertake a skydive for the hospice. Now I am making good on that promise, and I hope my JustGiving page continues to show the tremendous support that has begun so well.”
Emily Aitken, fundraising and events lead at the hospice, said: “Our community means the world to us, and knowing that Councillor Hasthorpe has chosen Andy’s as one of the Mayoral charities this year gives us such a boost. We are absolutely thrilled that he has decided to skydive in aid of Andy’s and the children we care for, and we are so excited to see him take to the sky!”
