Hull sexual predator sentenced to 20 years behind bars

A Hull man, Anthony Bielby, was served a sentence of 20 years jail time on Monday 12 July after he was charged with 11 counts of historical indecent assault and rape against a child.

The 65-year-old’s trial at Hull Crown Court lasted a week before the jury unanimously found him guilty.

Throughout the court case, the victim had to recount the horrendous details of her ordeal, including how she was preyed upon since a young age for his own sexual pleasure.

Bielby denied the accusations presented by the victim, instead choosing to plead not guilty.

Detective Constable Clare Allen stated: “The journey to court has been a really difficult one for the victim in this case and I sincerely hope that the unanimous guilty verdicts for all of the offences and the 20-year sentence imposed to Bielby will help in healing the wounds which his despicable actions have caused.

“I know that does not take away the pain and hurt he has caused, but I hope this sentence will provide his victim with some comfort in knowing that nobody else will come to harm at the hands of this man.

“I would like to provide reassurance to anyone who may have suffered a sexual abuse. If you come to us, we will listen to and support you and act against those responsible.”

Allen’s team work alongside local authorities, charities and agencies to give victims the help and support that they need, no matter how far they wish to proceed through the justice system.

If you are a victim of rape or sexual assault, it is advised that you notify the appropriate authorities by calling 101 (or 999 for emergencies).
