Humberside Police to hold Cycle Theft Awareness Event following thefts in the area

Humberside Police will hold a Cycle Safety and Theft Awareness Event on Tuesday 6 April in Grimsby town centre.

The local police team will be based at Grimsby Town train station from 10am until 3pm that day, joined by staff from Grimsby Cycle Hub.

Together, the group will offer advice about bike maintenance, locks and cycle security, in an effort to reduce the risk of bike thefts.

Police officers will also patrol the nearby area to give advice on locking bikes securely.
The Cycle Theft Awareness event follows a number of bike thefts in North East Lincolnshire, with many local residents taking to social media to appeal for any information about their stolen bikes. Two were stolen from the Home Bargains car park in Grimsby just last week.
According to the Humberside Police website, some steps you can take to keep your bike safe include:
  • Using a good quality chain or D lock
  • Locking your bike in the most visible and populated area possible
  • Making sure your lock is secure
  • Positioning your lock so it is awkward for a thief to attack
  • Locking, or taking with you anything that can be easily removed – e.g. lights or quick release wheels
  • Insuring and registering your bike
  • Making it easily identifiable
  • Taking your lock with you when you ride
If you require further information, visit Grimsby train station for the Cycle Theft Awareness event between 10am and 3pm on Tuesday 6 April.
