There has been lots of uncertainty for motorists who frequently use the A1077 between Scunthorpe and Winterton ahead of next weeks road closure.
As part of the Environment Agency’s £12m flood defence works in South Ferriby, the A1077 will be closed for 7 days from 13 February 2021.
However, Appleby level crossing is set to have work done the 13th and 14th weekend too as essential maintenance work is carried out.
The diversion in place for the A1077 includes the Appleby crossing.
Local councillor Paul McCarten spoke up on behalf of Winterton residents and sent an email to North Lincolnshire Council stating his concern.

Simon Green, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director of Commercial, responded by saying:
‘As journeys are restricted to essential only in the current pandemic, these road closures will not be running concurrently all the time and the fact both road closures have been advertised with advance signs on the road network and online, drivers have every opportunity to make changes to their journey in advance of the closures. Whilst I appreciate that the signed alternative routes are long and take time we can only go by the most suitable alternative based on the class of road being worked on. Please note that provision is made for emergency services when a closure is in place and they are fully aware of the situation.
As a consequence we will not be contacting the Environment Agency nor Network Rail and ask them to change their plans for these vital works.’
Cllr Paul McCartan stated ‘I completely appreciate these large projects have impacts beyond the North Lincs borders, much work should go into ensuring different scheme and departments do liaise to help bring them to fruition.
