Life saving equipment installed in local train stations

TransPennine ExpressTransPennine ExpressTransPennine Express have partnered with colleagues at network rail to install life-saving defibrillators at six of their stations.

Thanks to new funding, new equipment has been fitted at Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Huddersfield, Hull Paragon, Malton and Scarborough.

Situated in prominent locations at each station, the defibrillators can be used by members of the public or station staff by using a key code.

The key code is accessible by ringing 999, instructions will be clearly given by emergency services until paramedics arrive.

Funding for the defibrillator installation has been provided by TPE, through its Community Rail Partnership Growth Fund.

Liz Collins, Interim Managing Director for TransPennine Express said: “Our stations are a key part of the communities we serve and are normally busy public places used by lots of people.”

“Every second counts when it comes to suffering sudden cardiac arrest and the new devices could save someone’s life one day.”

Sudden cardiac arrest occurs 140,000 times a year in the UK and defibrillation is most effective if delivered within four minutes from the time of the cardiac arrest.

TransPennine Express tweeted: “Huge thanks to everyone for making this happen!”

The new installations allow stations to have key medical equipment close to hand which will save countless lives.
