Report: Fine weather led to action-packed weekend in LCCL
The bright sunshine meant it was a busy weekend in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League, as cup matches and league fixtures took place.
GEORGE MARSHALL CUP QUARTER-FINALS
Division One side Messingham’s youngster Josh Joy hit a superb 100, as his team beat Premier Division Caistor Town by 44 runs after posting a total of 218 for seven. Joy hit 106 and Richard Antcliffe registered 36 before Liam Wood made 83 not out as Caistor made 174 for nine in reply. Andy Langford took three for 20 for the victors.
On June 11, they will travel to Hartsholme, who beat Lindum 2nds by 19 runs at Ashby Avenue. They were dismissed for 100 after making a good start with 36 from Krish Barla and 29 from Michael Hale, as Jack Mcglagan took five for 19. But Joe Birkitt went one better when he claimed six for six to bowl Lindum out for 81.
The all-Division One tie saw Broughton beat Outcasts by 13 runs on the Isle of Axholme, scoring 168 for seven courtesy of a 46 not out from Sean Clixby and 28 not out from Lewis Parker in the lower order. They then dismissed the Priorymen for 155, as Shaun Clark picked up three for 24, while Graham Clark top-scored with 39.
Broughton will entertain Premier Division Louth in the other semi-final next month after they eased to a 48-run victory over holders Market Rasen.
LCCL DIVISION ONE
Cherry Willingham moved up to second in Division One following their 51-run win over Louth 2nds. Joe Dobson top scored with 32 in Cherry’s 158 for eight, with Stewart West taking three for 26 and then going on to make 48 as his side were bowled out for 107. George Hunt captured an impressive six for 17 for the visitors.
The other Division One game saw Normanby Park pick up their first league win of the campaign when they bowled Market Rasen 2nds out for 159, with Oliver Wood claiming four for 30 before Luke Cowling guided his team home with a 68 not out.
LCCL DIVISION TWO
Brocklesby Park remain unbeaten and continue to top the table after beating Barton Town 2nds by four wickets at Keelby. The hosts dismissed Barton for 122, as Joe Atkinson hit 38 and Muhammed Ayub took four for 13. Mohammed Saad Khan scored 37 and Inderjeet Sandhu hit a match-winning 35 not out despite the best efforts of Billy Wright, who took three for 30 for the Humbersiders.
A 77 not out from William Davies proved pivotal for Bracebridge Heath 2nds, who restricted Alford to 155 for eight and then reached 156 for five. Ryan Maidment hit 34 for Alford.
Grimsby Town 2nds bowled Lindum 3rds out for 113 thanks largely to Dave White picking up four for 24 before James McGregor hit 66 and James Gorbutt notched 37 not out to earn Town a nine-wicket win.
Hibaldstow also won by nine wickets when they beat Alkborough quite comprehensively after dismissing them for 98. Nauman Akhtar captured five for nine and Hamza Shahis claimed four for 37. Josh Cowling scored 60 not out alongside 19 not out for Nathan Stewart.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Hartsholme 2nds claimed their first win of the season when they saw off Broughton 2nds by six wickets. Broughton made 141 for nine, with 45 from opener Nick Crawford and 33 from Andre Tinnie. Jason Roberts took four for 13 and Sam Bunn claimed three for 33 for the Lincoln outfit before Roberts starred with the bat as well, making 60 not out alongside 35 from Faiz Iqbal to see their team home.
LCCL DIVISION THREE EAST
It wasn’t quite a league record, but HLC 2nds pair Steve Wright and Paul Morgan put together an unbeaten opening stand of 262 against Grimoldby. Wright hit a run a ball 126 and Morgan registered 110. Daniel Baker then picked up three for one, as the hosts replied with 81
The other two scheduled fixtures were conceded, as Alford 2nds were due to play Cleethorpes 3rds and Louth 3rds were set to face Caistor Town 2nds.
LCCL DIVISION THREE WEST
Scunthorpe Town 3rds beat Nettleham 3rds at Owmby to climb above them to the top of the table after restricting them to 152 for seven. Luke Jenkin hit 53 and Richard Hauton made 27, while Aj Dosanjh took three for 25 before Harry Crampton made 38 and Ben Brumby hit 35 not out to ease Scunthorpe to victory.
Cherry Willingham 2nds claimed their first win of 2023 when they beat Scothern 2nds by 67 runs. Number 10 batsman Phil Lunn hit an exceptional 63 not out when Cherry made 187 for nine. Scothern’s Robin Curtis claimed five for 23, but Cherry’s Jimmy Ingamells went one better when picking up six for 21, as the visitors were dismissed for 120. Muhammad Zubair top scored with 42.
The other game saw Messingham 2nds use the loan system to their advantage when they saw off Brigg Town by 13 runs at the Rec. Youngster Archie Rowlands hit his first senior half-century (54) and Outcasts loanee Martin Davey made 50, as they set a total of 163 for five. Sayed Abu took three for 22 and Michael Harrison claimed two for 46. Abu then fell one short of a half-century himself when Brigg replied with 150, with another loanee Brett Smith claiming two for 11 and Matthew Henton registering two for 28.
