Report: North Lindsey Cricket League finally got underway following false starts

The new Mick Walker North Lindsey Cricket League finally got underway after a couple of false starts to the season following poor conditions.

But the weather once again got in the way at the weekend, as two games were brought to a premature close.

MICK WALKER NLL DIVISION ONE

Appleby Frodingham set a tough target of 204 for five at Alkborough, with Mohammed Rahman hitting 66 alongside 45 from Jack Forrester and 36 not out from Jordan Neil. Andy Williamson picked up two for 49 for the home side, who had reached 42 for one largely down to 27 from Will Standerline.

The weather soon got in the way, though, bringing about an abandonment that meant Alkborough received seven points and Frod were given 10 in the newly adopted points allocation.

MICK WALKERMEMORIAL TROPHY – GROUP B

Outcasts beat Messingham by 23 runs at Hirst Priory, where they posted a total of 164 for five, with Charlie Mason scoring 46 and Russell Fletcher reaching 30 not out.

Father and son team Tony and Joshua Joy then took Messingham close, as Joshua notched 75 and Tony registered 33 not out, with Sam Varley and Billy Scott taking two wickets each as the Priorymen picked up the points.

MICK WALKER MEMORIAL TROPHY – GROUP C

Scunthorpe Town 4ths beat Haxey on run rate out on the Isle of Axholme, setting a tough target of 202 for five before restricting Haxey to 68 for four in 16 overs prior to the conditions becoming unplayable.

Izan Ul Shaikh hit 55 for Scunthorpe, Matt Pashley got 42, Ben Crew reached 35 not out and Dhnev Chaudhry scored 33. Cameron Laithwaite captured two for 33 for the Isle side.

NORTH LINDSEY EVENING T20 CRICKET LEAGUE

Elsewhere, the newly formed North Lindsey Evening T20 Cricket League got underway on a drizzly night at Hirst Priory last week.

A reduced-overs encounter between Outcasts and Normanby Park took place, with the visitors coming out on top with a 41-run victory.

Scott Grimes made 49 not out and Mason McDaid reached 39 not out, as Park set a target of 97 for one.

The Priorymen replied with 56 for two, as Russell Fletcher hit 25 and Freddie Burke registered 20 not out.

This week will see the other four clubs begin their campaigns when Broughton host Hibaldstow and Scunthorpe Town take on Alkborough.
