Cricket report: Several LCCL games took place despite poor weather
The Lincolnshire County Cricket League had to overcome some more questionable weather as the season looks to get into full swing.
LCCL PREMIER DIVISION
Hartsholme picked up their first win since being promoted into the Premier Division when they beat Holton le Clay by 46 runs, posting a total of 149 all out. They then bowled their opponents out for 103, with Michael Hale hitting 78 for Hartsholme, while Dan Portus took four for 24 and Stuart Harvey three for 24. Steve Wilkinson and Joe Birkitt captured three wickets apiece in the HLC innings.
Cleethorpes 2nds beat Scunthorpe Town 2nds at Chichester Road after making 170, with the hosts dismissing Scunthorpe for 135.
Louth grabbed their first win of the campaign when bowling promoted Barton Town out for 130 before easing to 131 for the loss of just one wicket.
Elsewhere, Dale Coy scored an impressive 105 for Haxey, who reached 215 all out against Caistor Town. Sean Woolley and Liam Skipworth took three wickets each, but in a nail-biting finish, Luke Francis held his nerve to guide Caistor to a one-wicket victory after hitting 61 not out. That was despite the best efforts of Oliver Tonks, who took four for 33. Ashton Coley ended with three for 45.
Market Rasen and Scothern was abandoned due to poor weather. It looked like it was set for an exciting finish after Rasen made 104 and then reduced Scothern to 75 for six.
LCCL DIVISION ONE
Lindum 2nds made it two wins from two against Louth 2nds in Lincoln. They set a target of 193 for eight, largely down Ollie Alford notching 86 and 41 from Oliver Houldershaw. Tom Marshall took four for 26 and Tom Lane three for nine, as Louth were dismissed for 71.
Big-hitting Matthew Lawson fell one run short of a century to help Messingham make 190 for five at Normanby Park. Owen Taylor (four for 30) and Tom Sowerby (three for 32) then helped bowl the hosts out for 169, with Zac Meadows hitting 45 and Declan Dunning reaching 31.
The game at Nettleham 2nds was abandoned due to the weather, with Outcasts having reached 182 all out following 47 from opener Henry Holland and 46 from Jacob Dunstan. Nettleham had only just started their innings and were on four for one when the game was halted.
LCCL DIVISION TWO
Early leaders Bracebridge Heath 2nds were beaten for the first time when going down by four wickets to Alford, who bowled them out for 90. The visitors then replied with 91 for six, as Benny Masterson saw them home with an unbeaten 47.
Second-placed Lindum 3rds fell nine runs short at Keelby, where Brocklesby Park posted 115 all out before restricting the visitors to 106. Muhammed Saad Khan hit 37 and then picked up four for 16 for Brock Park, with Zac Shelbourne (four for 21) and Edward Barnes Heath (three for 28) producing good figures for the Lincoln outfit.
Barton Town 2nds gained a narrow 11-run victory over Alkborough, making 145 all out following 27 from Ian Andrew and 25 from Finlay Bell. Matty Brown with 51 and 45 from Oliver Kirman almost guided the visitors home, but five from 27 from Ben Andrew and three from nine for Tom Brock clinched it for the Humbersiders.
There was an amazing finish to the game between Broughton 2nds and neighbouring Hibaldstow that brought about a rare tie. Broughton made 102 all out, with opener Nick Crawford top scoring on 19. Jon Taylor took three for 17 for Hibaldstow and his son Joe looked to have seen his team to victory after making 55 not out, but with the scores level, a last-gasp run out meant it ended all square for a sharing of the spoils.
LCCL DIVISION THREE EAST
Caistor Town 2nds have made a terrific start to the season and they went two from two when beating HLC 2nds by 69 runs, with James Mikkonen scoring 93 in his side’s total of 188 for eight. He then took five for 14 when dismissing HLC for 119.
An unbeaten stand between Nathan Whiting (55 not out) and Fraser Pemberton (54 not out) meant Horncastle reached an impressive 184 for three before bowling Alford 2nds out for 65. Thomas Hackett picked up four for 21, as the other six were shared between George Brewster and Aaron Bruce.
The other League Three East fixture saw Cleethorpes 3rds’ Max Chapman produce a man-of-the-match performance against Louth 3rds, hitting 24 in the Meggies total of 157 for nine. The youngster then took five for 20, as Louth were dismissed for 74 and Joshua Brindle picked up figures of three for 20 in the Cleethorpes innings.
LCCL DIVISION THREE WEST
The local derby at Hirst Priory went the way of the visitors, as table-topping Haxey 2nds made 86 all out. They then bowled Outcasts 2nds out for 66, with Brett Smith and Jason Whiteley taking four wickets each for the Priorymen. Aaron Mitchell and old-hand Mark Sloan Atkins captured three wickets each for the visitors.
Scunthorpe Town 3rds have won both of their opening games. The latest came against Brigg Town, who they bowled out for 70 after Owen Dunderdale hit 30. Tom Brumby made 28 and Dan Barratt notched 24 to see Scunthorpe home.
Charlie Elliott scored 55 and Zeshan Aslam 30 for Scothern 2nds, as they posted a total of 132 against Cherry Willingham 2nds. Cameron Donald hit 40 as Cherry replied with 79, with Josh McGowan taking four for 13 and Muhammed Zubair recording three for five for the victors.
