By Match report: Barton Town comfortably beat Golcar United
Barton Town cruised to a comfortable victory over Golcar United at the Easy Buy Stadium last night.
Tom Waudby’s brace either side of half-time puts him on 75 goals for the Swans, while Kian Salter was also on the scoresheet in the 3-1 victory.
The hosts started the game the better of the two sides, as they looked to put Golcar under some early pressure.
But it was the visitors that had the first big chance of the game when Daniel Naidole went through on goal down the left, with Ryan Musselwhite making a good save to keep the scores level.
Salter had the Swans’ first real chance after 20 minutes, as he picked up the ball down the left, cut inside into the area and hit a shot that was blocked behind for a corner.
It wasn’t long before Barton would break the deadlock on 24 minutes through Waudby. Harrison Coley showed some neat footwork to play in the forward, who made his way into the box before powering the ball low into the bottom corner for his 20th goal of the season.
The hosts almost grabbed a second with Coley striking just over the bar shortly after that. Their pressure did eventually tell on 38 minutes when Salter doubled the lead after Waudby crossed the ball into his teammate and he headed the ball home.
The second half was played with the same frenetic energy, with Barton looking to add to their lead and Golcar looking to get back into the contest.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, Henry Parr was played in down the left and, after beating the goalkeeper with his effort, a covering defender just managed to clear the ball off the line.
Waudby – looking for his milestone 75th Swans goal – almost found it when he was put through on goal, but his shot was deflected behind for a corner.
His brother, Will Waudby, went close to getting his name on the scoresheet with a long-range effort that landed on the roof of the net after it didn’t quite dip enough.
Barton finally got their third goal in injury time after manager Nathan Jarman came off the bench to intercept a loose back pass before rounding the keeper and laying the ball off for Waudby to tap it in to reach 75 goals for the club and record his 21st of the campaign.
Within moments of the restart, Golcar pulled a consolation goal back through Slater Barkham-Barnes, who found the net for the visitors from a corner.
There were no further chances, as the Swans sealed a convincing win in their penultimate game of the season.
