Scunthorpe Pool League KO plate throws up shock victories
The first round of the KO plate threw up a few surprise results in the Scunthorpe Pool League last week.
The result of the night came at Showman’s, as Division Five Black Beauty B turned the league upside down with a decisive frame doubles win for Carter and Chapman, sending the visitors through to round two.
Division Six newcomers Schnapps A also did the job against Division Three’s Glenny’s Poachers, as Harrison and Moore’s second doubles victory earned the hosts an excellent 5-3 win.
Struggling Division Six side Beacon Rats put their league woes to one side, earning a comfortable 5-2 success over Division Two title challengers Messingham Crown. Rehana and Ali Khan – pictured in the article’s featured image – won their doubles matchup to help the Rats claim their shock victory.
Lord Roberts, who are chasing promotion in Division Seven, won 5-3 at home to Foxhills Bulldogs from the division above.
Refs Corner Pocket of Winterton also pulled off an upset win, humbling Old Farmhouse with a 5-1 in the singles frames.
Cocked Hat put on hold their relegation worries for the week, as they gained a morale-boosting 5-3 victory over Division Two side Black Beauty A.
Seven of the 10 sides from Division One navigated their route to round two after each recording comfortable wins. But Beacon A needed a decider to get past Division Five’s Ashby Crown B.

Iron man Dan Walker’s (with 14 successive league wins) RAOB side dispatched Harry’s Bar 5-2.
Division Three champions Beacon Rat Outcasts needed doubles to overcome Division Six’s Foxhills club 5-3 in what was a nervy affair. Elsewhere, Fedoras needed a decider to progress away at Mulligans Misfits.
League leaders Winterton Jubilee needed a deciding frame win to defeat plucky Division Six side Keadby WMC.
Only four sides from Division Three made it through to round two, as league leaders Bottesford Town Club progressed with a 5-1 victory against youth side Mulligans Spurs.

Mulligans ST’s ensured there was no upset in their game against Brumby Hall B, while Division Four pace-setters Showman’s Bandits and Chancel Flyers both progressed with victories over Priory and Schnapps Elite.
Fifth-placed Broughton WMCA earned an excellent 5-1 win against second-placed Mill Road Dynamite, with bottom-side Redbourne NnC joining them in the next round after their 5-0 success at Roxy Rack Em.
Third-placed Beckwood Sex Panthers are now only one of two sides from Division Five to have progressed, as they overcame fourth-placed Mill Road B.
