Grimsby child killer and predator dies in prison

Douglas Blastland, 63, has died from Covid-19 while serving a life sentence in prison for violent sexual attacks on four local boys.

Grimsby-born Blastland was jailed in 1977 following the attacks on his victims who were aged between 11 and 13. Several of the incidents are reported to have taken place in People’s Park.

He was convicted of two acts of gross indecency and two of attempted gross indecency, resulting in a five-year prison sentence.

Following his release, Blastland committed a further attack on a young boy which sadly proved fatal.

He was sentenced to two life sentences for murder and sexual assault. Blastland is now confirmed to have died in August following an outbreak of Covid-19 at HMP Full Sutton.
