Trial begins for Humberston priest accused of sexual assault

A former Church of England minister accused of sexual assaults on boys has gone on trial today at Lincoln Crown Court.

Terence Atkinson, 70, is accused of 13 charges of indecent assault on male persons. He has denied the crimes which are said to have taken place against 7 people aged from 10 to 16, between November 1978 and November 1999.

Atkinson was an ordained Minister in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area.

It is alleged that Atkinson would invite boys back to his home before assaulting them.

David Webster, prosecuting, said: “This is a case where charges of indecent assault are brought against Mr Atkinson.

“He betrayed the trust of these young boys and abused them.”

Atkinson, of Humberston, denies 13 charges of indecent assault on a male person.

The trial will continue on Tuesday.
