Calls for action after ‘near miss’ on Grimsby street
A local councillor is calling on North East Lincolnshire Council to take action after a ‘near miss’ on what he describes as a ‘dangerous’ bend in Grimsby.
According to Councillor Steve Holland The ‘sharp bend’ on St Nicholas Drive, which is located between the Jubilee Inn and the path leading to Timberley Drive, is used as a regular crossing spot.
But sadly, the location is now being described as unsafe following an incident in which a young girl narrowly avoided being hit by a car.
Now, Steve Holland is calling on the council to introduce a zebra crossing at the site.
Councillor Steve Holland said: “A zebra crossing will make it much safer for children going to and from school and elderly people and those in wheelchairs or mobility scooters to reach the local shops.”
Speaking via social media he wrote: “When I was elected to NELC I knew that I would need to be a solid ward councillor acting for Freshney residents on a whole range of issues.
“This is one. The residents of Wybers and Aylesby Park never ask for much from the Council in return for their council tax, but we do need a safe crossing across St Nicholas Drive.”
“it’s only a question of time before there is a serious incident,” he added.
A local said: “I live nearby and have young child. People treat this road like a racetrack and action is needed before something devastating happens.”
So far the petition has reached just over 90 signatures. You can find it here.
