Labour ‘has the answer’ to Grimsby’s problems says Starmer
Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer visited Grimsby yesterday to discuss how Labour’s would approach the future and issues in Grimsby if they were to win the next General Election.
Locally, the visit has been somewhat overshadowed by Grimsby MP Lia Nici’s reaction after she claimed he had “hidden away” by not informing her of the visit. She also accused him of treating Grimsby like a “new discovery”.
But, speaking to BBC Look North’s Peter Levy, Starmer said Grimsby “really matters” to him and the Labour Party. He said: “Grimsby really matters to me and it matters to the Labour Party. I know we’ve got to earn every vote.”
Interviewer Peter Levy responded saying he should be ‘breaking barriers down’, and suggested that he shouldn’t be on Grimsby Docks, but should instead have visited Freeman Street “with real people.”
But Starmer hit back saying that, although Labour lost the Grimsby seat for first time in almost 100 years at last election, people are “crying out for serious government, a plan, stability,” and that “Labour has got the answers”.
