Incredible outcome for park thanks to Immingham Schoolgirl!

Incredible outcome for park thanks to Immingham Schoolgirl!

One proactive 7-year-old’s fundraising efforts have seen brand new play equipment installed at Immingham’s Pilgrim Park after the originals were destroyed by arsonists.

Elysia Nicolaou fulfilled her promise to raise money for new play equipment at her favourite Immingham earlier this year. In August she was able to present a cheque for over £2,500, and now the new park has come to fruition.

Elysia has raised the funds with a sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge. She, along with her mum and nanna, handed over the donation of £2,536 to North East Lincolnshire Council’s grounds maintenance team at Pilgrim Park on Thursday 8 August.

Speaking at the time Elysia said: “The climbing frame was my favourite thing in the park. When it was set on fire, I said I don’t understand why anyone would do that to it.

“I was already raising money for Charlie’s Hedgehog Care in Holton-le-Clay and I said can we not raise money for the park? I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me.”

Mum Vicky added: “As parents we are extremely proud of how caring and determined she has been throughout raising the money. She’s grown so much in confidence, and it has been amazing to watch and support her during this. We cannot wait to use the park again.”

The new play equipment is now open to the public.
