Multi-million pound plan to be submitted for vacant Pleasure Island lot
The site of a former Cleethorpes theme park could be in for a major make over as developers prepare to submit an application for a multi-million pound development.
Formerly the site of Pleasure Island, developers have created a multi-million pound plan for a hotel and retail park, including Lidl, Home Bargains and Costa Coffee.
On Wednesday, November 2, North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee witnessed a presentation setting out details ahead of the application being submitted.
Owners of the 54-acre site said they hope to create 212 luxury holiday lodges as well as space for a Lidl supermarket store, a Home Bargains store and a Costa Coffee café.
Pleasure Island theme park opened in 1993 but was shut down in 2016 as visitor numbers declined, sitting vacant ever since.
Developers have negotiated with representatives from Lidl, Home Bargains and Costa and hotel operators while the centrepiece of the development is a large hotel and conference centre with a 5,000 capacity.
YPG Fab 2 and Seaside Getaways Ltd also want to build 212 lodges with around 50 on prime locations, overlooking the estuary.
For entertainment and activities there would also be two lakes for water sports activities and buyers of the lodges it is understood will own the plot on which they are positioned.
While councillors and officers got a sneak peek of what the plans will now precisely compose of, the public will not have to wait long to see for themselves the details.
The formal planning application is expected to be filed by mid-November.
