Evan Peters has opened up following the huge success of Netflix’s Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
Evan Peters opening up on what it took to play the serial killer, and what he needed to do to be in Dahmer’s headspace.
The 35-year-old actor appeared during a Q&A panel for the series where he opened up about playing Dahmer, who murdered 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991.
Peters revealed he spent months preparing for the role, which included creating an audio composite to get his voice down.
Peters revealed during the Q&A the role involved, ‘four months of prep, six months of shooting.’
‘He has a very straight back. He doesn’t move his arms when he walks, so I put weights on my arms to see what that felt like,’ Peters said.
‘I wore the character’s shoes with lifts in it, his jeans, his glasses, I had a cigarette in my hand at all times,’ Peters added.
‘I wanted all this stuff, these external things, to be second nature when we were shooting, so I watched a lot of footage,’ Peters continued.
The actor said he worked dialect coach as Dahmer had a very ‘distinct’ way of speaking.
‘I also went off and created this 45-minute audio composite which was very helpful. I listened to that every day,’ he added.
He said the audio composite to, ‘get into his mindset.’
‘Yeah it was an exhaustive search, trying to find private moments, things where he didn’t seem self-conscious,’ Peters continued.
He said he wanted to get a glimpse into how he behaved, during the three-year project.
The show was watched a huge 701.37 million hours within three weeks of its release, and is now the second most-viewed English Netflix series of all time.
