By Powergrid works set to cause roundabout ‘hell’
Roadworks which are set to impact traffic on one of Grimsby’s busiest roundabouts for up to seven weeks has sparked concern among locals.
Works are set to begin on Monday 31 October and will end on Monday 19 December, forcing sections of two roads leading from the roundabout at the junction of Waltham Road, Scartho Road and Louth Road to close.
The following sections of road will be affected:
- Southbound lanes of Waltham Road from its roundabout junction with Scartho Road / Louth Road to its junction with Springfield Road.
- Eastbound lanes of Springfield Road from its junction with Mendip Avenue to its junction with Waltham Road.
- The full extent of Gate Lane from its junction with Waltham Road to its junction with Pinfold Lane.
This is to facilitate a ‘reinforcement’ of Northern Powergrid’s network to enable it to accommodate additional demand generated by various new housing developments in the surrounding area.
The upcoming works have been met with widespread frustration by locals who use the roundabout as part of their daily commute.
Speaking via social media one person wrote: “The roadworks need doing but this is going to be absolute hell, hundreds of people use this route everyday.”
Works are set to begin on Monday 31 October and will end on Monday 19 December.
Diversions will be put in place and a number of busses will be rerouted as a result.
Bus services 9, 10 and 108 will divert via Louth Road, Station Road, Waltham Road and Fairfield Road in both directions.
