Footage released after controversial benches ‘dumped in alleyway’

Police have released CCTV footage following several incidents where controversial new benches were repeatedly vandalised.

This comes after the installations, which were situated in Louth,  were labelled a “hideous waste of public funds” by locals.

In the most recent incident of vandalism, one of the seats was removed from the setting.

Officials say it was later found dumped in an alleyway.

Authorities have now removed what remains of the structures.

Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council said: “Whoever carried out the vandalism took the seats off the unit and left them in an unsafe and obstructive way in the adjacent alleyway.

“This is the second case of vandalism that has happened to these units on Mercer Row and we will be conducting a further investigation into what has happened.

“Vandalising the units is simply unacceptable.”

Now, Lincolnshire Police has issued footage showing a suspect involved in the most recent incident of vandalism.

The force is appealing to the public for help identifying the man in the video.

The suspect is believed to be a white male aged approximately 50 to 65 years old.

It is alleged that he removed the benches from Mercer Row and moved them to a side street on Little Butcher Lane.

The incident is believed to happened before 3am on Thursday 29 September.

Officers say they would like to speak to the man captured in the video.

Anyone who knows who he is or who can provide additional information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 164 of 30 September.
