Corporation Bridge works delayed once again
Restoration works set to take place on Corporation Bridge in Grimsby are now projected to take place next year in a recent update from North East Lincolnshire Council.
The £5 million works were originally set to begin in January this year and were expected to take 18 months to complete, with temporary traffic light and road closures decided.
However, these works were pushed back to March, then to May or June and finally to late July or August.
In September the council stated that a contractor had been elected for the works and that they were awaiting a decision from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) before works could begin and the contractor could be announced.
The council are still awaiting the final decision with the works now expected to begin in January 2023 depending on the outcome of the application. They added that they would share another update later in the year.
North East Lincolnshire Council said: “Further to our update in August, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) public notice period ended on Tuesday 20 September.
“The public notice period is a statutory requirement to allow work on Corporation Road Bridge to commence, which required a period of 28 days from the date of the first newspaper notice publication, which was Tuesday 23 August.
“We are now awaiting the MMO to reach a final decision on our application for the permit.
“The proposed start date for the works is expected to be January 2023 once we understand the outcome of the application. We will provide a further update later in the year.”
