Humberside Police confirmed that a man was taken to the hospital from the scene, following a concern for safety call at 3.30 pm. They have said the man is in a serious condition.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to Ashby Ville Nature Reserve, Scunthorpe shortly after 3.30 pm today (Sunday 14 August) following reports of concern for the safety of a man in the water.

“The man was treated by emergency services before being taken to hospital, where he currently remains in a serious condition.

In July last year, the body of the St Bede’s Catholic Academy pupil was discovered in a lake at Ashby Ville Nature Reserve in July.
Managed by North Lincolnshire Council, the reserve is popular among walkers, families, and open water swimmers, despite safety concerns.

There are signs dotted across the nature reserve that state that swimming, paddle boarding, and boating in the lake are prohibited.

Residents in the area expressed their shock when they witnessed people playing in the water just one day after the tragedy occurred.
Local people say the lake is full of discarded items such as trolleys, making it extremely hazardous.

There are now calls for the waterway to be drained so the hazards under the water can be cleared.
