‘Mysterious’ noise heard throughout Waltham and Scartho

Residents in and around Scartho and Waltham were left shaken last night through to the early hours of this morning after a loud rumbling noise circled overhead.

Many said that they thought something was going to come through the roof of their homes.

One citizen from Waltham said: “With all that’s going on in the world it makes you extremely jumpy and frightened, the noise was extremely deafening. I had no idea what was happening which made me more on edge, my first thoughts were that the current world problems had escalated.”

It was soon broadcasted that the loud rumbling sounds were due to RAF night flights, which will carry on throughout this week. Usually, they take place Monday through to Thursday and until the early hours of the next morning.

Many who could see the planes overhead enjoyed watching them through the sky as they practiced. They commented saying it was a wonderful experience and was quite spectacular, as the low planes allowed those watching to see the enormity of aircrafts.

They also added how “crazy” it is how much noise two planes can make.

The noises carried on throughout the night over a long period, leaving those who didn’t know who it was confused and shaken up. One citizen said that they had read it could carry on till 1:30 am.

The RAF was night flying from Coningsby, where locals were able to watch from the viewing area Dogdyke Road, Coningsby.

One local commented how although it is required for the RAF to do this training information should have been more widely circulated to reduce anxiety.
