Father and son pose as patients to rob dental surgery
A father and son posed as new patients wishing to register before stealing a sum of money from a dental surgery in Grimsby.
Colin Graves, 42, and Jack Morgan, 25, appeared at Grimsby Crown Court, charged with burgling the Dentology surgery on Hainton Avenue.
Graves was also being sentenced for another burglary of the same premises in November last year and one at Tile Giant at the Gala Retail Park in Grimsby.
He was also charged with stealing £1,200 worth of watches from The Watch Hospital in Freshney Place in March this year.
The court heard that on March 9 this year, the pair attended the Dentology surgery and asked the receptionist for two forms to register as new patients.
The duo distracted the receptionist by asking for a price list as Graves then pushed through two perspex screens and stole a tin of cash from the counter which contained £209.15.
They were then asked to leave by the receptionist and the owner of the dental surgery contacted the police.
Graves was interviewed twice by police the following day, on March 10, and denied any involvement.
When his son, Morgan, was interviewed by police, he answered ‘no comment’ to every question.
Morgan pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment.
Judge Thackray addressed Graves: “You are 42. You have committed a number of offences during a period of deferment. That was a real golden opportunity for you to change your life but you burgled the same place.
“You have thrown it away. Only you can change your ways and break the cycle of committing offences.”
Graves – who admitted all charges against him – was sentenced to three years and ten months’ imprisonment with a requirement to serve half.
