Scunthorpe MP yet to make a decision on who should be the new Prime Minister

Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft has yet to publicly state which of the two Conservative leadership candidates she will be backing.

Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss will now battle it out to become the next prime minister, hoping to gain the support of as many MPs as they can.

A final vote will be held in a few weeks with the new PM set to be announced on September 5 for when Parliament returns.

Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft has not stated which candidate she will be backing but has instead stated she will be listening to both Sunak and Truss.

She added that she hopes that the new PM will be the best leader for Scunthorpe after having ‘fantastic success’ in the area over the past two years.

In a statement, she said: “Over the last few days Conservative MPs have now whittled down the contenders in the leadership election to two, and party members will get the chance to vote for either Rishi or Liz to become the next leader and Prime Minister.

“I will be listening to the hustings that are set to happen to hear what the candidates have to say in the coming weeks before voting closes. The most important thing for me is that we have a leader who will be the best for our area. We have had some fantastic successes here in Scunthorpe over the last two years, and I will be making sure that continues.

“I would really like to hear what local residents have to say about this too, and I have put a survey up on my website so people can tell me their thoughts on who they think will be the best PM for Scunthorpe. “
