Locals plead for stronger police presence on Frodingahm Road
Following recent incidents over previous weeks, Scunthorpe residents have pleaded for a stronger police presence on Frodingham Road.
Over previous weeks, Humberside Police were called to numerous reports of criminal activity on a notorious street in the town.
Sadly, Frodingham Road has earned an unsavoury reputation for an array of incidents, sparked, in part, by the unnecessary number of off licences fuelling drunken and anti-social behaviour plaguing the vicinity.
Additionally, the “lack of” a police presence has been blamed for the increase in criminality in the area, locals have argued.
In recent weeks, Humberside Police officers conducted a warrant on a property on Frodingham Road, a search that proved crucial after a large cannabis factory was discovered.
Then, officers were forced to implement a Section 35 Dispersal Notice after a “scary street brawl” resulted in two arrests and three needing hospital treatment.
Following these incidents, Gi Scunthorpe News asked locals what needs to be done to eradicate crime and anti-social behaviour across the notorious Scunthorpe street.
One resident sang the praises of the lovely shop workers on the street, describing them as “welcoming”, but did stress the there is a problem that needs to be addressed: “that said, there obviously is a problem and it needs the Police to make sure its Policed effectively.”
Another local stated those participating in anti-social activities have “no respect and no consideration at all,” adding:
“I wouldn’t dare walk down there (Frodingham Road), it’s bad enough in your car.”
“Frodingham Road is now spreading to the high street, it’s becoming a no-go area sadly … start with a good clean up and Police it,” replied another.
One woman claimed she was followed and “spat at” whilst walking along Frodingham Road, adding she feels “intimidated and unsafe” before confirming she “won’t go anywhere near Frodingham Road anymore.”
Conversely, residents have shared their positive experiences, one arguing:
“I work on Frodingham road. And I can say I’ve never had a problem in the street with anybody!”
“The staff have always been very welcoming, never had a problem.”
Humberside Police and North Lincolnshire Council have both been contacted for a statement.
Humberside Police said:
“We are also working closely with partner agencies to identify and implement suitable long term problem solving solutions to help prevent further anti-social behaviour in the area.”
North Lincolnshire Council are yet to respond.
