HUGE success for local pool stars after 5 sides qualify for National Finals!
The nations regional qualifying campaigns wrapped up a week ago with five of Lincolnshire’s sides once again qualifying for the national finals in September.
Last October the region achieved massive success at the 2020 national finals at Burnham-on-Sea with the A, B and masters sections becoming national champions for the first time. All five sides will be looking to emulate past success this time round as all qualified in commanding fashion.
Lincolnshire A needed a final day victory at West Yorkshire to secure a place at the finals, which they earned with a 21-15 away win.
Grimsby based Paul Clark topped the region’s most wins tally with an outstanding 26 wins from 32 during the qualifying campaign.
Lincolnshire B only needed to avoid a massive defeat on the final day to qualify. They did one better by winning 22-14 against West Yorkshire B to qualify as group runners up.
Scunthorpe born Guy Smith, who won the deciding frame at the last national finals, was on scintillating form once more this season, topping the regional player averages with 25 wins from 32.
Three of the top four players this campaign come from Lincolnshire, with Col Finn coming in at third and Gainsborough based Bobby Fenton finishing fourth.
Lincolnshire C had qualified for the finals with a game to spare in a very hard qualifying region, which thankfully the 19-17 defeat on the final day to West Yorkshire C was merely an academic conclusion to the season with no consequence.
George Bennett of Market Rasen completed a hat trick of regional top shooters winning 25 frames from 32.
Grimsby based potting machine Andrew Fletcher finishing third in the region’s top shooters.
The senior’s side qualified in relentless form winning 7 out of 8 qualifying matches with the remaining fixture ending in a draw.
Paul Clarke once again the region’s top shooter who joins three other Lincolnshire players (Bobby Fenton, Matt Steeper, Michael Caborn) in the top six player averages.
Finally, the masters section qualified with plenty of games to spare, winning 9 of their 10 qualifying games, scoring an incredible 150 frames in total.
Guy Smith had to settle for second in the player averages on this instance winning 35 frames from 50.
All five sides will go into this year’s finals in very confident moods as many pool fanatics predict another round of silverware this September.
Supporters wishing to view the event will be able to do so on Sam Jones’ ‘The Yorkshire Project’ livestream as the finals kicks off on September the 8th and concludes on September 11th.
