Students at Cleethorpes Academy left disappointed after missing out on prom
Year 11 Students at Cleethorpes Academy will not be able to experience the prom their friends have.
Cleethorpes Academy is not holding a senior prom this year, to celebrate the student’s final days at the school. The majority of the students at the school have worked hard up their GCSE’S and are left disappointed.
The academy is part of a multi-academy trust along with other secondary schools such as Tollbar Academy and Louth Academy which have both given their students the chance to have a prom.
Cleethorpes Academy has given the year 11 students at their school a prom every year since the COVID pandemic, and this year has decided against it due to the unacceptable behaviour during school hours. The prom is usually held at the Brackenborough Hotel where the students enjoy a sit-down three-course meal with friends and have the chance to enjoy a firework display.
The students at Cleethorpes Academy will not be able to experience their final goodbye after 5 years of hard work up. Many are upset about this and find it unfair that the other schools in the trust can have this experience.
Many secondary schools across Grimsby and surrounding areas have given their students the chance to experience every child’s dream of going to prom. Tollbar Academy, Healing School, Humberston Academy, Caistor Grammar, Ormiston Maritime Academy, and King Edwards have all gone above and beyond to let their students have this experience and the relief that they have finally finished.
Year 11 students have gone through a lot with COVID and have been pushed through their limits to get the grades they need. They all needed this final celebration.
Students at Cleethorpes Academy were told they will not be having a senior prom this year because they haven’t been following the rules and behaving appropriately. The majority of the students at the school have found this unfair, as the students who are behaving and following the rules are not able to have a prom, due to their peer’s unruly behaviour.
The school has officially decided not to host a senior prom this year, due to the inappropriate behaviour held during revision sessions before the students left following the end of their GCSE’S.
The students at Healing School didn’t get their prom that easy either, all students were given a “prom passport” and the students had to earn signatures to go to the prom.
Each student had to earn 35 signatures to go to the year 11 senior prom which is to be held on Thursday 7th July. The students were able to earn their signature by going to revision interventions after school, weekend revision sessions, breakfast club, a full week of attendance, and earn behaviour points.
If the students were unable to get the full 35 signatures students, they were not granted a ticket, however, some children who didn’t have the full signatures were allowed a ticket if their attendance was satisfactory and so was their behaviour.
The top 10 students that were able to exceed the average of 35 signatures by having 45 or more were given £10 of their entry ticket which was originally £36. Healing even gave the student who got their 35 signatures first a free entrance ticket.
