Officer faces hearing after ‘unreasonable amount of force’ used in multiple arrests
A Humberside Police officer is to face a misconduct hearing following reports he used an unreasonable amount of force whilst apprehending two people.
Allegedly, PC Henry Green is said to have used a leg sweep to bring one woman to the floor at the Tesco store in Newland Avenue, Hull on June 6, 2019. She was handcuffed at the time and unable to brace herself or break her fall during the arrest.
Green is also accused of failing to “adequately physically support and control the complainant while she was taken to the floor to minimize the risk of serious injury”.
The PC is also said to have hit another person in the face while holding a pair of handcuffs, on the same day of the prior arrest. The complainant was also handcuffed at the time.
PC Green allegedly breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour by applying a force that was “not necessary, proportionate or reasonable in the circumstances”, on both occasions.
The accusation is that the result of these incidents amounted to gross misconduct.
The police misconduct hearing has been scheduled to take place between July 11-13 due to take place at the former Magistrate’s building in Goole.
The misconduct hearing announcement states: “The above conduct breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to use of force and individually and/or cumulatively amounts to gross misconduct.”
