Grimsby woman reunited with lost kitty after two months

A woman from Grimsby has been reunited with her feline friend after disappearing for almost two months.

Fred the cat, a 14-year-old tabby and white kitty, went missing shortly after moving into a new home with owner Debra Holden.

Fred mysteriously vanished during a very cold and snowy day in March earlier this year.

According to Debra, it was very uncommon for her fluffy companion to wander off outside and she began to fear he may get lost walking around the streets of Grimsby.

Thankfully, a kind nearby resident had been feeding Fred for two weeks to ensure he was healthy before finally contacting the RSPCA over concerns for his welfare.

Reported by the Lincolnite, Debra was “sick with worry”, adding that the distraught woman had pinned posters to lamp posts, posted in social media threads, and even investigated through the streets of Grimsby in a bid to find Fred.

Speaking to the Lincolnite, Debra said:

“I work at a vets and my daughter is a vet nurse so we were hoping he might be brought into the vets but again there was nothing.

“I was just getting to the point where I thought we wouldn’t get him back when the RSPCA officer turned up – I was so shocked!”

Animal rescue officer at the RSPCA, Hannah Williams, came to Grimsby to help Fred and stated he was in “surprisingly good condition.”

After scanning Fred’s chip, she immediately saw he had been registered as missing and instantly drove him to the address on the microchip.

A very happy and relieved Debra opened to the door to the wonderful reunion. She had now vowed to keep her flurry companion close by her side going forward.

Debra continued:

“As he’s getting older now, we think it’s best to keep him close by so we’re building him a fantastic catio so he’s a bit safer but can still potter around the garden.

“It was just too painful to lose him like that, it was such an unpleasant experience and I never want it to happen again.

“We changed the details on his microchip as soon as we moved. I know from working at a vets just how important it is, and thank god we did or I don’t think we ever would have seen him again.”
