Stolen motorcycle usage prompts fresh police campaign
Humberside Police have launched a fresh appeal following reports of “stolen” and “illegal use of motorcycles.”
Stolen motorcycles have been causing a nuisance in North Lincolnshire with residents reporting several incidents across previous months.
Earlier in the week, residents in Brigg had joined together to issue strong warnings following increased visuals on youths riding through the town engaging in activities that have since been coined “utterly stupid and reckless.”
“I reported them to police 2 weeks ago on springbank no helmets or reg plates got pics on cctv still not heard back from police”, added one frustrated local.
One eyewitness told how they spotted two youths riding on a motorbike with the passenger holding onto a push bike which triggered further questions in relation to bike theft in the area.
Additionally, late-night riders have caused further anger amongst Brigg residents:
“There was some moron on a bike last night, no baffler so making a right racket, 11pm at night”, replied another.
Now, Humberside Police, who are investigating many reports in the Brigg area, issued a statement which read:
“Humberside Police are investigating reports of persons causing a nuisance with stolen or illegal use of motorcycles in the Brigg area, this is part of our OPERATION YELLOWFIN .
“If you have recently seen anyone using motorcycles causing a nuisance in the area of BRIGG we would like to encourage you to contact the police on the non-emergency telephone number 101 or alternatively call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“Please rest assure that the information you provide will be used as intelligence and you will remain anonymous at all times.
“Remember to keep your own property secure to reduce the opportunity for any such behaviour. Whenever possible lock your own motorcycles in a secure premise even if you are in the house.
“Please be reminded to lock your vehicle with suitable security equipment and keep any security gates, garages and sheds closed and locked at all times.
“Illegal use of a vehicle causing a nuisance is something that effects the whole community not just individuals’ and can be dealt with by way of a warning/seizure under Section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 or seized for no insurance under Section 165 of Road Traffic Act 1988.”
