Car parts and wooden pallets fly-tipped in Grimsby

North East Lincolnshire Council is appealing for witnesses after wooden pallets, car parts and other rubbish were illegally dumped in Grimsby last weekend.

Staff from the Council’s street cleansing team cleared up car seats, a tyre, clothing, bags of household waste and about 10 wooden pallets from outside Grimsby Community Recycling Centre in Gilbey Road.

Enforcement officers are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident and checking the waste for other evidence. They suspect the waste came from the Cromwell Road area of the town.

The incident from 19 June follows several other fly-tips carried out at the same location in recent months..

Cllr Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “We need your help to track down the people responsible for illegally dumping this rubbish.

“Fly-tipping makes the area look a mess and harms wildlife. If you know who did this, please get in touch.

“People can help prevent fly-tipping by checking the credentials of anyone they pay to take away their waste.”

Fly-tipping is a crime that can run the risk of a £400 fixed penalty notice.

If enough evidence is found the council could ake offenders to court where the penalties can be much harsher.

The Council added that “fly-tipping is a national problem. We all have a legal obligation, or duty of care, to make sure our waste is disposed of correctly.

“People who don’t check the credentials of waste carriers, can also be prosecuted if their waste is found fly-tipped. They could land themselves with a fine of £300 and possibly more if they are a business.

“If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area or recognise the waste that was dumped, please report it in confidence at www.nelincs.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01472 326300.”
