Urgent request to help baby swan with fractured femur
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue has issued an urgent appeal to help a baby swan that is suffering from a fractured femur.
After reports that the cygnet in Immingham couldn’t use one of its legs, volunteers from the rescue centre took the poor bird away for a check-up.
Following a visit to the vets, it became clear that the baby bird has a fractured femur, an incredibly expensive injury.
The normal expense for surgery and rehabilitation would be over £2000 but the amazing vet staff has reduced this to £1000.
The rescue team are urging members of the public to help out with the costs as they run purely on donations alone.
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: “URGENT REQUEST: Can you help us save the Cygnet (swan) from Immingham?
“Volunteers rescued this cygnet yesterday from a pond in Immingham after reports that it couldn’t use one of its legs. After a veterinary assessment, it was discovered that this young cygnet has a fractured femur!
“The normal cost for such treatment as this could easily be north of £2,000 and would include a rather major surgery, a lot of follow-up care and rehabilitation requirements… Knowing that this is a huge cost for a rescue such as ours and that the cygnet stands a good chance, the vets have decided to give up their own time to complete this surgery and only charge us for the equipment. This is still expected to be around £1,000 but will give this cygnet a chance at life and grow to be a beautiful adult swan!
“We know this is a considerable cost and there are always risks involved, but we ask if you could spare anything to help us try to save this cygnet and allow it a chance at life, please donate, it’s simply not going to be possible without you!”
Any donations can be made here.
