Two special exhibitions set for Baysgarth House summer re-opening
Visitors will be able to enjoy two special exhibitions when Baysgarth House re-opens its doors over the summer months, the council said.
Visitors to Barton-upon-Humber will have the chance to experience an incredibly special royal celebration when an exhibition commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee opens on 2 July!
According to the council, the event will utilise “rarely seen” photographs from the North Lincolnshire Museums gallery archive.
Her Majesty often travelled to Scunthorpe and surrounding North Lincolnshire areas during her remarkable reign, making several visits to our local communities across decades of dedicated service to our country.
In the exciting announcement, the council said:
“Through the second exhibition, curated by the Better Barrow Community Project, visitors can explore the fascinating life of one of North Lincolnshire’s most famous sons, John Harrison.
“A figure of immense scientific importance, Harrison’s greatest achievement was the invention of the marine chronometer, revolutionising navigation and sea travel in the 18th century.”
The Grade II listed Baysgarth House will be open on weekends in July and August 2022!
Additionally, the Georgian Room will be open, offering free family craft activities.
The re-opening of the house “coincides with the return of popular, family-friendly performances in the park”, the council added.
Family-fun performances are as follows:
- 3 July: Paradise Lost
- 17 July: Barton Community Band
- 14 August: The Pantaloons Theatre Company presents: War of the Worlds
- 21 August – Illyria Theatre Company presents: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
- 28 August – Assembleth Theatre presents: The Shodyssey
Whilst the amazing entertainment will be free, donations are encouraged to enable future shows to go ahead!
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member, safer, stronger communities: rural, said:
“It is fantastic to see the facilities at Baysgarth Park continue to go from strength to strength and benefitting the whole community.
“Earlier this year £70,000 was invested in a new state-of-the-art outdoor gym, to help local people keep active. The accessible equipment is free to use and can benefit people of all abilities.
A state-of-the-art outdoor gym was officially opened in Barton’s Baysgarth Park earlier this year.
“This summer is a great opportunity to explore one of the area’s finest listed buildings, enjoy free live theatre and see the Green Flag award-winning park at its beautiful best.”
