Traffic signal improvements on Littlefield Lane

There are works set for upgrades to traffic signal equipment to improve traffic flow and journey time at a junction on Littlefield Lane.

The works come as part of the council’s Local Transport Plan, with the improvements on the A1136 Cromwell Road & Dudley Street junction.

NELC said the national shortage of electronic equipment resulted in the scheme being delivered in two phases.

“The first phase of works took place on Monday 21 March 2022 to Friday 8 April 2022. During this time, carriageway resurfacing was completed in preparation for the traffic signal upgrades which will take place in the second phase of works.

“This has been scheduled to start on Monday 4 July and is expected to be completed by Friday 15 July.

“The works will be carried out during the day between 7.30 am and 6 pm, with 24-hour three-way traffic signals at the Littlefield Lane, A1136 Cromwell Road & Dudley Street junction, and Littlefield Lane (between Dudley Street and Prince’s Avenue) will be closed for the duration.”

There will be access will be maintained to Cromwell Avenue via Chantry Lane, and Littlefield Lane junction with a signed diversion route.

“The second phase of works includes the removal of the existing traffic signal equipment, which is at the end of its serviceable life, and the installation of new traffic signals, which will improve traffic flow and reduce journey times at the junction.

“The works will be managed and overseen by the council’s regeneration partner, EQUANS, with contractor, PBS Construction (NE) Ltd, carrying out the works, which also includes carriageway resurfacing and repainting of road markings.

“The council, EQUANS, and PBS Construction (NE) Ltd would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these essential works.”
