Incredible Humber Bridge walk raises money to rebuild destroyed park

On Sunday 19 June, six-year-old Elysia held her very own charity walk across the Humber Bridge in the hopes of rebuilding her favourite park.

Back in April, Pilgrim Park in Immingham was set ablaze, with locals looking out their windows shocked to see plumes of smoke.

Two 13-year-olds were arrested shortly after but unfortunately, the playground was completely destroyed in the blaze.

However, Elysia is planning on rebuilding her favourite park after she was left devastated by the fire.

Joined by nearly 50 people, she walked across the Humber Bridge despite the wind for her amazing and selfless cause.

Elysia’s mum Vicky was bursting with pride as she said: “The walk was windy, but still warm luckily and there was a happy buzz in the air. Lots of people were greeting us and generally happy to see such a large group of people doing something great. The support from the Humber Bridge was awesome with constant communication and checking in on us.

“The children were so happy and you could see pride oozing from them, their parents and family were equally proud.

“So grateful for everyone who came along, from school friends and teachers, family and strangers who are now friends right up to everyone who’s donated. It’s overwhelming how well she’s done and I am extremely proud of her. She’s grown so much as a person and hopefully continues to make an impact. She will always have our support.”

Stepdad Lee added: “How amazing is our little girl, it’s so great to see her doing something positive for the community and to bring so many people together for what was a great occasion on Sunday is a testament to what her school, her mother, father and myself try to instill. We would love to top this off by maybe a local company to come in and boost her donations and fulfill our little girl’s dreams.”

Over £1000 has now been raised by this amazing young girl. Anyone who wishes to donate can do so here.
